The first author here is REALLY confused and obviously doesn't read much. the 150's and 200's are NOT "STILL" P-5's. The P-5, known as the Pentium, comes in 75, 90, 100, 120, 150 and 166Mhz versions. Without going into technical specs that would be greek to the adverage computer user, the P-5 is good for 16 and 32 bit code. The P-6 <as mentioned correctly by GMan, Pentium Pro> comes in 150, 180 and 200Mhz versions currently. Again, without going into gurustuff, the P-6 works best on pure 32-bit software. <unix, NT and OS/2 running oly native OS/2 apps.> For the common user using Win95 <which is not pure 32bit> with games, and other 16bit software, the P-5 performs MUCH better. The P-6 runs 16bit code slower that low-end P-5's. The cost is not that much different actually. The main reason that large corporations are using the P-6 is that it does offer a SUBSTANTIAL performance increase for servers running 32bit software. Resulting in increased productivity and more stable network situations. If you are in the market for a power user computer. Go with the P-5 166. Win95 SMOKES on them. Or even a 150 for that matter. If you are a 95 user and considering a P-6 of ANY speed, I feel that you will be greatly disapointed. Especially if you are sitting with a P-5 90 or above right now. HOWEVER, if you are going to run all PURE 32bit software, then the Pentium Pro will definately serve you well. Eric |
