Yes, go into the ControlPanel and change your virtual memory setting. Windows sets up a temporary swap file. The size is based upon the ammount of free spance you have left. I would suggest a Permanent swap file with about 8-10MB. Permanent swap files tend to run faster. When creating the swap file windows will look for a contigious area that it can creat the file. Knowing that the center of your hard drive is the fastest, that is where you should strive for windows to create it. To better achieve this, change your virtual memory to 0. Restart windows so that it gets rid of the swap file. Then, Optimize <defragment> your HD. This will move the data into a contigious form on the outter edges of thie platter. <the first 250 MB in your case>. Then, reset your swap file to 8-10 MB permanent swap file. Your first 250 MB will be your already installed software. MBs 251-259<261 for 10 MB file> will be your swap file. Which falls pretty close to the center making it about as effcient and fast as possible with your drive. Clear as mud, right? Eric AC502 |
