Thanks for the help. > 'Ratchet Here's some other options. -------- Some problems that seem to be quite common amongst Windows users are: 1. Floppy Reads are not accurate, or don't udate properly. This can almost always be cured with an editing of SYSTEM.INI in the [386Enh] section. IRQ9Global=On If set to On then this entry converts IRQ 9 masks to Global. Set this entry to "On" if your system hangs when it reads from a floppy drive or to make sure the system reads the floppy drive before starting Windows for Workgroups. The Default value is "Off". 2. Modem falls asleep at the wheel when running BBS. IdleVMWakeUpTime=4 Enables timer interupts to periodicly wake up idle virtual machines (Your BBS) after the specified number of seconds has elapsed. If the virtual machine does not us timer interupts (INT 8 or INT 1Ch), Windows for Workgroups does not usually force timer interupts into a vitual machine unless it is active. This entry forces the timer interupts to occur. The value for this entry is rounded down to the lowest power of 2 (for example, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64). The default is 8. To change this entry edit your SYSTEM.INI. 3. Exception Errors reported by EMM386 A20EnableCount=64 Specifies the initial A20 enable count which identifies the A20 handler that HIMEM.SYS uses to access extended memory. For more information about the A20 enable count, see the docs for your extended memory manager <NEXT>. Dos 5.0 Manual (The Bible as far as I am concerned when used in conjuction with WFWG resource kits), HIMEM.SYS: Param: /int15=xxx (64-128 should be enough) Allocates the specified amount of extended memory (in kilobytes) for the Interupt 15h interface. Some older programs use a conflicting extended-memory scheme. To use memory allocated by this switch programs must recognize Vdisk headers. To ensure enough memory is available add 64 to the value you want to specify for xxx. Valid values for xxx are in the range of 64 through 65535. If you specify a value less than 64 the value becomes 0. The default is 0.
