  When I was running Windows, I was using Norton SpeedCache Plus (I found it
to be significantly faster than SmartDrive).  I was running at 2 meg under
DOS, and 1 meg under Windows.  (Although I'd occasionally pump it up to 2 meg
under windows, whenever I had the RAM).

  Chaning the SmartDrive caches should help as well.  Try an extreme (2 or 3
meg) and see what a difference it makes.  Then back off, until you've got a
good balance of speed vs memory.  Make sure that write caching is ON.  That's
where the biggest improvements are.
