Re: I promise... > and not do a thing. I'm still trying to understand why I would want to > register if all I get is...nothing? (Oh WHOOPIE, someone can download a QWK The main reason I registered was to get rid of that bothersome pause at connect, and to get a VirtualNet node address. I believe the Net things is the main area that the shareware sticks ya - its also nice to be able to create more than one message base and file base area. > with printed manuals....I wouldn't care of they had the cheesy spiral bound > cookbook look... just something I can look at while I'm toying with things) Here is the answer to your problem (or at least how I got around it). I went to campus at night (while evening classes were being held) and found the lab assistant and said...hey...open up S140 for me would ya...I want to print a report on the Laserjet. The guy asked me why I didn't just use a lab that was already open - I just said that my report was of a fair size and I (being the nice thoughtful guy that I am) didn't want to hog up the print buffer on that print server and hold up the class being held should they decide to print something. This produced free paper (enough for three copies) and free toner - therefore a free manual. Slapped it together in a notebook that I already had for the docs for 6.12, purchased 12 dividers for $2 from KMart, used my archaic hole puncher, and now I have a pretty snazzy manual. Alternative two is what I did for the 6.12 manual. I put on a strange, over caffinated look at work, sent it to the print server, shut the door to the print room (giving anyone that came in a strange look) holding onto my jumbo Captain Kirk coffie mug, and collected my prize. People came and left the room quickly - no questions asked. ...of course printed manuals with illustrations from RdG would have been much nicer and easier. He told me on the phone that he had a program that takes all the text and imports it into Pagemaker - everything spaced, placed, and ready to print real nice like. I asked him for it and he gave me the big "NO" due to copyright crap. > To add to the trouble, I was told by a friend that when you register VBBS, > you can only get the source code to 6.10 and 7.00, not the in-between 6.12 > and 6.14. True. Very true. 7.x sourcecode is not complete, however. > Oh well, I think I am posting off topic now.... Yeah - a menu driven, graphical sysop/setup/monitoring software would be great! Something like Novell 4.x's administrator stuff, but with drag and drop database construction. True multi-tasking, and perhaps the ANSI portion of the BBS in a small floating window. He will probably make us pay for new software (like switching from DOS to OS/2).
