Richard Glidden | All | Windows '95 Installation Problems... |

Howdy all, I was just wondering if anyone out there could help me. I've been completely unable to get Windows '95 to compelete it's installation. I've called MS-Tech Support, but they can't help either. I've swapped out cards, re-partitioned my HD, and have basically done everything possible. The only common demoninators between ALL of my installation attempts are the HD's (a Western Digital Caviar AC31200 (1.2 gig) and a Seagate ST3290A (265 meg)), and the System BIOS (Award Modular BIOS v4.50G, with Plug-N-Play Extensions). Obviously, the motherboard (ASUSTeK P/I-P55TP4XE) and the processor (Intel Pentium 100) are also common to all of the attempts. I'm using 16-Meg of EDO RAM in two 8-Meg SIMMS. I was just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems, or if anyone else has gotten Windows '95 to load correctly on some, or all of the above hardware. I'm beginning to think that it's the System BIOS, which is why I'm curious... Anyhow, the problem is that the Win '95 Setup program completes the first stage of the installation (the part that runs under DOS/Win 3.10), and reboots. When it reboots, it says "Starting Windows '95...", then processes the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT (which are virtually empty), and goes to the blue "Preparing to load Windows 95 for the first time..." screen. The mouse pointer appears on the screen, turns to an hourglass, and then the screen goes black, and the mouse pointer turns purple. The system locks. Under a Safe-Mode boot, the same thing happens, but the screen does not turn black, and the cursor remains white. Instead, there are little parallel green bars running vertically down the screen for about an inch near the top of the display. Still locks up. Thanks in advance for any information, or hints that anyone might have... /\/ Richard Glidden \/\ |
