VAREA Area Subscriber 7.05 ========================== Copyright Neil J Marshall 21st October 1991 - 15th October 1995 TransAtlanticBBS @440 VirtualNet 2:440/211 FidoNet +44-1689-812646 Introduction ============ This utility simplifies the process of subscribing to, hosting and managing networked Message and File Areas in VirtualNET-type networks. To subscribe to an existing Area you just browse through the Area Lists, and select the ones wanted. To create a new Area you just decide the Title, the Topic and the Type, Secured or AutoSubscription. Release Notes ============= 7.05 Added a new /JOINACTIVE command to subscribe you to all Areas in the Network-Wide Area List that have a minimum Flow as specified by the /FLOW=# command line option 7.05 Added a new /DROPDEAD command to cancel your subscription to any Areas in the Network-Wide Area List that have a Flow of less than that specified by the /FLOW=# command line option 7.05 Changed the method of Flow calculation to monitor exactly when each Post is received in every Area you Host, and therefore report exactly how many Posts have been received in the last 7 days in the Activity Report 7.05 Altered the figure reported in the Nodes section of the Area List to include the total number of BBS that are actively Posting in the Area from other Networks, in addition to the number of Subscribers from this Network only, giving a far more accurate picture for Gated Areas 7.05 Following the introduction of the VNET AreaFix Technical Standards, introduced a /OLD switch to force VAREA to use the old VAREA format of messages, otherwise the VNET AreaFix format will be used, and at the same time removed the now unnecessary /NEW switch 7.05 Modified the routine that reads the Flow reports at the Area List Co-ordinator's machine to ensure it handles large reports from Hosts that have hundreds of Areas 7.05 Added a /REJECTOLD command line option to make VAREA reject all AreaFix messages that are not received in the format documented in the new VirtualNet AreaFix Technical Standards 7.05 Introduced new internal Sort routines that replace the use of the SORT.EXE program in DOS, and run twice as fast as well |
