What operating system?
If a multitakser, it may be time for a tweak session.
What initilization string?
For sure is the modem properly re-initializing after callers log off,
with the next caller having no problem logging on? (See where that's
going in relation to your long re-initilization times?)
What kind of modem is your server using? (And why does he use y-modem,
not that it should really matter?) Ask him or her.

Are you aware of the problems USR is having with it's Sportster 33.6
ROM? Do any users report unusual keyboard delays while on your board?
Do an ATI7 within a term pgm or the VBBS ( VA also <?> ) terminal mode:
from WFC, 'T' gets you in, F1 gets you out. Jot down ALL the info, and
post it. You may have a 'bad' ROM. If so, the replacement from USR is
free.

Note: even the bad ROM is not supposed to affect "standard data trans-
fers, using common transfer protocols such as ZModem, FTP, HTTP". <sic,
from USR.com> It's supposed to be a keybd buffering problem only. Seems
to be my experience with it also. I also take everything with a grain of
salt.

P.S. I'll post the latest info in it's entirety from www.usr.com, complete
with all models affected. The suggested workaround by them for the keybd
problem is to set S12=0. (Or get the free upgrade!)
