If anyone would > like to helpo, I would be greatful. There seem to be some problems with the Hierarchy (RC's) being able to send out updated BBSLISTS. As a result of two updates ago, EVERY SINGLE message got rewritten to *LOCAL* necessitating unsubscribing and resubscribing to every networked message base I carried. I never thought I'd be a older hand at this but look at the following. The HD CRASH 1. Are you running smartdrv or any disk caching software on boot as a TSR- Visual and Quick Basic (VBBS and VA) have been seen to trash the contents of whole directories ESPECIALLY if you use a Promise or other Disc Caching IDE controller card 2. Is there any ascii garbage (extra characters) at the end of your syspaths.cfg file. This crashed my HD 3 years ago when a bad or bogus bbslist hit on a bad syspaths.cfg and took the userfile.dat userfile.idx files to file allocation "data heaven" with it. 3. Verify the sizes of the executables, particularly advaux.exe, vnet.exe vme.exe and vmb.exe and delete damaged (incorrect size files) and replace with the ones from a freshly unzipped copy of VA (same version) 4. I presume you run scandisk/chkdsk or defrag to minimize fragmentation. The Message Bases: 1. May need reinstallation at the client and host ends or reinstallation at both ends. Check Vconfig to see if they show as local or "Gated 2" or more. If so either manually correct them or delete database.cfg or rename it database.old and start again. 2. Are you using VMB to subscribe or VAREA (outdated) 3. Alas, the apathy factor. I remember 350-1000 posts/net connect in my newbie sysop client days on VBBS 6.12 when there were close to 1,400 of us on the bbslists. Test messages are usually to see if NET is finally tossing successfully. 4. Last I checked pkzip 1.10 was required to be the version of pkzip in the VA/VBBS \Dir. verify which version you have. If none of the above: 1. Pray 2. Pull out latest tape backup. 3. Look at taglines in VSB (Virtual Support Board group) E-mail the Sysop there > Thanks > Castle > P.S. how do you set up the tagline? > 0 > 0Via: 1847000*1 1614017*1 1410006*1 name of file email.tag -The Prospect & Upper Ridge Railroad BBS- Catonsville MDVA 1.30 @1410006 VirtualNET AC @100 Synergy DM/F 410 747-1611 747-1656 Legion Outpost 1410001 AC <- LeftNet @41004 tagline.1 PURR -The Prospect & Upper Ridge Railroad BBS- Catonsville MD 410 747-1611 @1410006 VirtualNETVA1 @100 Synergy NC IP BRE9.79 DM/F 410 747-1656 tagline.2 -The Prospect & Upper Ridge Railroad BBS- Catonsville MDVA 1.30 @1410006 VirtualNET @100 Synergy DM/F 410 747-1611 747-1656 Legion Outpost 1410001 <- LeftNET @41004 TAGLINE.3 PURR -The Prospect & Upper Ridge Railroad BBS- Catonsville MD @1410006 VirtualNET*@100 NC Synergy*@1410001 AC ForeignLegion VA1.30 (410) 747-161114.4 (410) 747-1656 28.8 DM/F ALL FILES WERE MADE WITH VDRAW11A.ZIP which can be FREQ'd here and were copied into the \txt dir. Once you assign a tagline (#1-999) to a message base, all messages in that base whether local or Networked add that tagline after the message is saved. |
