TT#@>> Also is VirtualNet kicking all the v7.x sysops out? TT#@>You will need to be running VA. C'mon, don't try to sugar coat it, tell it like it is. Anyone who doesn't upgrade to VA is being kicked out of VirtualNet. Personally, I will agree that a move to VA is probably reasonable in light of the changing bbs world. But it was always my understanding that VNet was supposed to be a non-profit, hobby type network. For RdG to use the network as part of a scheme to force more sales of his 'new' software is just plain unethical. Plus it will be the death of VNet. This network has already suffered greatly as a result of certain internal political fighting which drove away scores of sysops. Now another large number will simply be booted out in the cold for no reason other than the fact that VBBS serves their needs and they have no real cause to upgrade. Add to that the number who will either voluntarily drop out or never join up because of this move, even if they decide they like VA, and you'll end up with what is supposed to be a national network comprised of maybe 20 or so nodes with nothing going on. I happen to be in the last category I listed. I have a bbs that has been in the works for a long time, but has never yet made it online due to my financial situation. I do anticipate getting it online within the next year and had always hoped to join VirtualNet. In fact, Vnet was half the reason I chose VBBS, the other half was because of it's configurability. My bbs is actually pretty much all set up and ready to go, just needs a phone line and to register some software. I may even look at VA, and possibly purchase it if I decide I like it. But I no longer desire to join VirtualNet. It has become a barren wasteland compared to what it was 4 years ago when vbbs became popular in this area, and most importantly, I will not participate in something that claims to be a hobby network when the person running it cannot manage to keep the hobby seperate from his business interests. It saddens me, but I feel I must bid Virtualnet a fond goodbye, as it is as good as dead. * SLMR 2.1a * |
