That name rings a bell, but the person I know at PC Micro that has and still
helps with BBS/serial related items is Mike Ehlert.  

If he doesn't know the answer, no one will.  They specialize in everything
serial and started in and still are in the BBS world.  

Maybe there is a DOS shim that would work with one of those serial to IP
devices.  If you email him on PC Micro's website, he will answer.  I have asked
 him BBS and serial questions that way before.
