As long as I can live comfortably in my own corner of the universe, > that's what's most important. But then, is it not important to allow others to be able to exist unperturbed as well? An organism tries to achieve immortality... but can't, not as itself. So it achieves immortality through replicating itself (children), through its group (it desires to have its own thoughts live on... and so it tries to cause its group to come a little closer to its reality; isn't that why debates like this are so much fun?), its species, other forms of life, etc. The reason it seems admirable to be concerned with the larger picture is that it IS admirable. What better way to achieve immortality than to have a permanent effect on the big picture? |
