I recommend Y2KA2. I've stuck with that version and did not progress further. 
I obtained the source code so the few fixes I've had to do I've done them all 
myself.

Over the years I'm sure you can remember all the little "quirks" that Renegade
had, the kind of stuff that made Renegade so wonderful, which makes working
with this version very easy and straightforward.

Basically anything newer than Y2KA2 completely changed the way the menu system
works, rendering all 3rd-party mods and stuff incompatible... and the last one
has tried to copy Searchlight with lightbar menus everywhere. 

I know there are people out there that like that kind of stuff, and if you do 
thats great, but if you want Searchlight-style lightbars, install and run
Searchlight.
