AA> I don't know what your ideas for content would be, AA> but in addition to AA> supporting submissions from readers, you could AA> single-handedly provide a AA> sections for "Best of echomail this week" to AA> highlight an interesting/ AA> funny topic that is surfacing elsewhere on an AA> othernet, or a book review AA> related to tech/computers, or a "The Rest of the AA> story.." section that AA> fills in the gaps that FTN history has left out or AA> forgotten, "New Ascii AA> art for the week", oooh.. there is so much AA> possible. You don't have to AA> duplicate the Software Lists or file source lists, but could have AA> something that those lists lack. I say we take a successful magazine, analyze its structure, and make a small version of it: Say, Linux Magazine: * An Opinion Editorial as an opener. * FOSS news. * Kernel development mailing list summary of the month. * The core articles(some in - depth tutorials mixed with light software reviews, usually). * Another Opinion Editorial. * "This is an issue I solve with this tool" one pager. * More articles, and a collection of "free software hidden gems nobody knows about, but you should" It is about 10k USD of paid author work per issue so I don't think we can clone it, but we can borrow ideas. I would not give more than one section to each author, otherwise you risk buirning people. Believe me. My proposed structure for three people: * Opening Opinion Editorial. * Hidden gems, programs nobody knows about, but are great. * Entertainment article (short story, movie review, book review) If one of those people wants to take more work (against my advice) or there are more contributors: * FOSS and network news. If you can't get three people on board, discard the idea. If you can, consider building a non-profit in order to get givemmes from the government to fund the operation. Quite frankly, I am done with unpaid editorial or publishing idealistic work :-) My starting price for fiction is 2 USD cents per word with a price agreement valid for one year and exclisuve rights for publication for 6 months :-) --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Micronet World HQ - bbs.outpostbbs.net:10123 (618:618/1) |
