Assuming this message reaches you, tell me about your opinion about the Voyager episode Non-Sequitor.. Frankly, all of you people make good points about this episode. In the history of Star Trek, I have NEVER seen soooo many great plot concepts squandered on screen. I believe that this episode will symbolize all that is great and wrong with Voyager. Let's itemize, shall we? <g> -1- Forget about TOS; this episode lifts concepts from ST:III, ST:IV, Yesterday's Enterprise, Parallels, and Inner Light (amongst others, but you all get the idea). -2- The stock footage syndrome is REALLY bad here. Somebody needs to run a trivia contest to determine how many scenes were yanked to paste that show together.. <BEG> -3- Not since ST:III have we seen such a poor display of Starfleet Security (wait a sec - there was that lone officer that took Bones into custody, but he was the exception) in action. No wonder Worf was recruited to help out over at DS9... -4- Related subject: the Comm Badge. At least Worf took his off before he made sushi out of Duras on TNG. Why didn't we hear that transporter hum from Starfleet Security??? -5- This should have been a two-parter!!! We finally have a Trek episode (other than Family) which depicts life on Earth in the 24th century. Over the course of two shows, we could have had the production values that we should have had on this one! The suspense could have been genuine, and we would have been treated to some scenes that we should have seen the first time. WHAT WORKED: The relationship between Tom and Harry was nice, if a bit contrived. And although Harry's sense of duty was noble, the real gem was watching Kim in action as he worked to solve his problem. Tom's sacrifice is yet another theme repeated on Trek, but it is still welcomed here. This one is like "The 37's" - great concept that died young due to rushed production values, chatty talk-a-thons, and a hastened ending that could have been, rather SHOULD have been a memorabe hour of Star Trek. *sigh* I liked watching it the first time. Repeat viewings will leave you frustrated, so beware. Let's try it again next week, shall we? <g> ͻ Duke! - theDittoheadTrekkieEchoHound ͼ SysOp, ComPort: Voyager * Co-SysOp, Peachtree Tavern ...Sickbay 6 - We'll leave the Doc on for ya! |
