Generations was a mistake. There were dozens of ways of having a better movie, but none of them were used. Frankly, watching was an adventure in self-torture. I think the inherent problem with the movie, which the original cast did not have, is TNG's ensemble cast. We know each member, and we want to see each member. In the original, we knew everybody, but who did we really care about? Spock, Bones and Kirk. That's pretty much it. So you could focus on those three, while the rest played extensive supporting roles. When the formula was at its best, your had the Voyage Home and Wrath of Kahn. When it was at its worst - you had The final Frontier. In order to have a sucessful TNG movie, they're going to have to focus more on crafting something smoothflowing where the entire cast plays a part, or enough of them do that you're not missing the others. In my opinion, there were dozens of episodes that kicked the movie's butt, even the series' ender. |
