Oh PLEASE!  What you must keep in mind, Steve, is that I'm am not of the "Old
Star Trek School", so to speak.  I never really liked the old series, and the
movies were, well, okay.  I've always liked Spock, and maybe Scotty, but Kirk
I could have done without!  As for TNG, I love Picard, Data, and Worf.  The
reason I'm not so particular of Riker is because he reminds me of Kirk.  As
for the close repartee you saw amongst the old crew, I certainly saw in the
TNG crew.  *I* cried when TNG the series ended.  But, other than that, the New
Crew hasn't been given enough time to put out as many movies as the old crew,
hence hasn't been put in situations to touch heart with....yet.  It's kind of
unfair to compare a crew with 6 movies under their belt to a crew with barely
one.
