Here's my 2 worth on the path length issue. I've seen a shareware prog or two designed to allow for longer paths, but why even take up their little bit of memory when an occasional common sense trim will easily keep you in the limit. The hardest part is to plan ahead. Keep directory names short that you plan to be in the path. Avoid subdirectories of them being needed to be included in the path. Realize that many if not most programs that say they need to be in the path really do not (batchfiles used creatively can help here, even to the point of loading a new path at the beginning of an occasional prog to keep DOS checking quickly and efficiently through just a few key directories rather than constantly checking through a myriad of seldom used directories. For example, when my PATH got unmanageable early on, I got fed up and put all by EXE & COM standalones in a C:\E ; Batchfiles in C:\B, etc. Or try E! and B! if the single letter directory names make you nervous. It saves a LOT of space in the PATH. Good luck! ʲrmnʼ ۲۲Carlomania۲ ν{}v7.00@1610069Nazareth.PA{}ν |
