Hehe. Yeah, it sorta sux! <G> Okay, let's be sure we're clarified here. It
is only the floppies that are =usually= dependant on 36-line ribbon cable
placement. Floppy A: should be on the end, the part with the famous "twist",
and floppy B: in the center. BTW, most people make the 3.5" 1.44Meg diskette
drive their A: if they can, there is less problems with installation of DOS
or other software which is almost exclusively on 1.44 diskette these daZe.

Per your hard drives, it should NOT matter where they are placed on the
40-line IDE ribbon cable. (SCSI is 50-line). Convention is, put the C: HDD on
the end anyway, and the D: in the middle. There is no twist on a HDD cable,
incidently.

Now! Can a Conner and a Maxtor peacefully co-exist in ANY configuration? Your
salesman may be correct. I have NEVER been able to get those two brands to
work together in either slave/master config, and Maxtor tech support
themselves said "good luck!" <G> It's Conner's fault apparently! <VBG!>
(gonna get flak on that!)

One last thing: some BIOS's will let you switch A: and B: when all is said
and done. I beleive other's have posted on that allready.
