I do not know that "story" but it does not sound like a good one :(

Well I got to test it this morning, hey I set the windows volume
for both master and wave to about 7/8 vol.
then I used the key board to bring up the vol in winamp.
I have no watt meter, on the to get list now.
It was f-ing loud, the cerwin's are a bit cob webish, running under 25 watts for
years.
I could only get winamps vol up around 3/4 before it started to distort.
I was pleased with most the mp3's i cue'ed up, the bass was enough
to move my chair but the high's didn't hurt me. But I would not
want to try the recording of the opra singer that breaks glass.

well I gave up years ago on the old turn table I had, I broke down
and bought an Olimpus from my local radio shack.(was the only kind
they had)
I still have piles and piles of lp albums that I will some day
record to mp3 or whatever the compression style is then
hey I got two albums recorded as *.ogg files, the compression is a bit
wierd the bit rate varies as they play but the sound is good :)
