I have been playing a little over 1 1/2 years. I've played guitar for over 35 years however. There is no comparison as the approach is different. I went for the Precision because of a local bass player I like named Carey Ziegler. He is the bassplayer for Crack the Sky and has played with Edgar Winter's White Trash. Well I was completely blown away with what Carey does with a cheap Mexican P-bass. His has the finish worn off on the back as he had played it for many years. They are indestructable and the parts are interchangeable. Unfortunately the Ebay prices are too much for an american P-bass. The latest trend is to get a nice Mexican P-bass and to change the bridge to a Badass II and eventually change the pickups. Actually the stock Mexican P-bass is fine. My bridge is substantial and the pickups don't hum. It is a "working man's" bass and it is the classic tone that is all you will need. The rest is up to your proficiency and amplification.
