The stores around me are VERY cool about that. I think I played every acoustic in the store the day I bought my 12-string Washburn, and just beat the hell out of my Guild electric before bringing it up to the counter. Not only were they cool with that, but I think they encourage it to cut-down on returns, so long as you're not damaging them by being stupid by banging them around. Beyond that...
