jahmas | All | Getting the bass rig together |

Ok so I am going through this mid life crisis where I am changing over to bass guitar. I have this delusion that I will be playing in a band soon. I have a cheap shit bass and I'm playing it through a guitar amp which is not great as far as tone and volume are concerned. I have been plotting and scheming to get a good working man's bass rig together so I can get that gig. I have stashed my pennies away and I'm ready to make my first component purchase. I will be ordering a speaker cabinet capable of playing in clubs and medium venues. The current trend is to have small, portable equipment so you can move around with ease. This is a problem with bass guitar since the "rule of thumb" is to have at least 3 times the wattage of the guitar player. The days of lugging around an Ampeg SVT, the size of your refridgerator are gone. I found a little cabinet with 2 10" Eminence speakers and a high frequency horn made by Avatar. Check out http://www.avatarspeakers.com. This little box takes 700 watts RMS and 1400watts peak. I'm sure that people will laugh at me when I show up to audition or go to a gig but once I proceed to blow the place apart, they won't be laughing any longer Jah to be continued... |
