I had to learn the basics myself, because this mare won't let the vet or the
farrier get close to her unless very heavily sedated. She let me grab her
hurting hoof no problem, though.

That case in particular looked very bad. We carved a lot of the damaged tissue
out and then ran disinfectanct into it. The disinfectant came from the other
side of the hoof because the infection had eaten a tunnel into it.
