Summary | 0000043: Vnet32 - Request a module be made to improve VirtualNET type network networking
Description | Seems like most BBS's use 3rd party software to be able to run BBS type networks. I would like to suggest to make an updated vnet network manager similar to vmb but written like vadv32, vsmtp32 and so fourth. Basicly, vnet would rely on either telnet, ftp, sftp, or ssh to transmit packets. After the tansmission of packets Vnet32 would post them to the VA databases. Also, users could quickly make their own networks and request new message areas instead of relying on vmb. What made Vbbs so popular "and is still the backbone" was its ability to network quickly and easily. If a good program could be made to improve networking VA type systems I believe this would be a positive step towards making VA users grow, espacially with the addition of VA-PHP 2.0. A vnet 32 could act as a standalone networking database solution. And even running and developing togeather with future releases of VA-PHP.. Eventually the old VA software would be dropped for user management, etc.. as a module would be made "VA32" to replace it as well.. Then, the entire system would be 32 bit.

I have a VNET Mailer in the planning stages which will make it pain free to transfer packets. It will be both a client and server so you just setup everything in VConfig and it will take care of the rest. This will not replace VNET.EXE though. It will be a standalone program that runs in the background. VMB at one time was scheduled to be rewritten but complications arose and I haven't messed with it since. The DOS VMB works well enough at this time so it isn't a priority. |

sounds great. anything to help out with making message bases and networking. Even a seperate project to make a simple windows based "file dumper" with nothing to do with VA would be nice as well. Just a simple program that you add nodes. Then, anything in a specified directory is dumped off at another nodes directory. This way, alot of data and message trafic and be transmitted and dumped at a specified time. Maybe with a PHP front end. This could turn into a nice stand alone program as well. A simple file dumper with a pop or smtp mail reader to start off and let the file dumper program grow from there. users join the mp3 dump or swf dump or movie dump and so foruth. Similar to a file mirror but more organized, more features, and private. Just a thought. |
